Maura Goodwin ’15
Theology
To Maura Goodwin ’15, music is a way to transform hearts and bring others to the beauty of God, and she now has the opportunity to make that the focus of her energy.
“I experience God through the beauty we sing at Mass,” Goodwin said, “and music ministry is a way of serving God and his Church while striving for excellence.”
With a triple degree in theology, catechetics, and sacred music from Franciscan University, Goodwin is the associate director of Music at St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre, New York. In addition to playing the organ, she oversees the Senior Girls’ Choir, Junior Girls’ Choir, and Children’s Choir. She stays busy with weekly rehearsals, but said she loves working with children and helping them grow in their talents and faith.
Goodwin’s music ministry has taken her all over, from her time in the Schola Cantorum Franciscana at Franciscan to acting as a graduate assistant while earning her master’s in sacred music from Duquesne University. She also served as the music director at St. Juan Diego in Sharpsburgh, Pennsylvania, an organist at St. Mary Mercy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the assistant organist at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Carnegie, Pennsylvania.
Now as associate director at St. Agnes Cathedral, she looks forward to sharing her love of the faith with others through her music.
“I am excited for this new journey in life and excited to be doing what God has called me to do.”
