Practical training to share the liberating truths of God
Available to those who study here on campus.
Franciscan University to prepares men and women like you to become well-formed, passionate leaders in our society and the Church. In accord with that mission, the Theology Department offers the chance to receive professional training in catechetics, the craft of handing on the faith for the transformation of culture in Christ. This formation takes place in conjunction with our MA in Theology and Christian Ministry Program, providing you with practical knowledge and experience that you need to hand on the faith to others.
If you are considering teaching in a parish, diocesan, school, or other religious education setting, you will find this program invaluable.
This certification in catechetics is available only to students who study here on our campus in Steubenville, Ohio, completing the program in conjunction with the MA in Theology and Christian Ministry Program. It is offered both in the regular Spring and Fall semesters and also as a summer program. To qualify for the certification, you take six additional courses in catechetics beyond the requirements of the MA Program itself, totaling 42 total credit hours in all. You also give an exit presentation on an aspect of the catechetical endeavor during your final semester in the program and take a final exam on the content on the Catechism in the Catholic Church.
In his day, St. Francis heard the call to “Go, rebuild my Church which, as you see, is falling into ruin.” The Catechetics Specialization offered at Franciscan University is demanding and thorough, and also immensely rewarding, equipping you to give yourself generously to Christ’s call for a new evangelization in the Church.
